Leipzig International School
The Leipzig International School was founded in September 1992 to serve the needs of the international community of the Leipzig region. The school is centrally located in the city adjacent to a beautiful park containing a woodland area and a river The school is also well served by public transport. LIS is a non- profit co-educational day school which is operated by a Board of Governors elected by the Association. It has grown steadily since it opened as the first International school in the state of Saxony as a pre-school and elementary school ten years ago.Twenty-eight nationalities are now represented among the student body. An academic program is provided for pupils from pre-school up to grade 12. The curriculum prepares students for the IGCSE examinations at the end of grade 10 and the International Baccalaureate Diploma at the end of grade 12. There are separate classes for pre-school children aged 3, 4 and 5. English is the language of instruction and where necessary ESL support is provided to help non-native speakers to integrate into the mainstream program. German is also taught to all students from grade 1 upwards. The academic program caters for individual needs and students are taught in small groups. A well equipped computer laboratory has been established with internet facilities for all staff and students all classrooms are on a central network. The school has its own playgrounds, a double sports hall, modern science laboratories, art and music rooms and a computer equiped library as well as 26 classrooms and a large Auditorium. An extra-curricular program offers options for participation in music, drama, and sports for students of all ages. All LIS teachers are qualified and experienced in their respective fields and reflect the international character of the school. Classes in the elementary section run Monday to Friday from 08:45 to 14:45 with mid-morning and mid-day breaks, and in the secondary school from 08:30 to 15:45. Special arrangements allow for children to be supervised from 08:00 and up to 17:00. Admission is by application to the Headmaster and is open to students of all nationalities. Placement in classes depends on availability, age, language proficiency and previous educational progress. Summer programmes are offered consisting of Language camps, Sports camps together with art and culture programmes. Residential facilities are available by special arrangement. International Schools |
