On August 9, 2004, the preschool opened its doors.
The elementary school will open in August 2005.
When the Berlin Metropolitan School was established, it was with the goal
of providing a unique educational opportunity for families living in central
Berlin Mitte and those in rapidly growing Prenzlauer Berg. The founders
designed their school to serve the needs of a parent population that was
often multilingual or particularly interested in the early acquisition
of English and high academic standards. At the time, it was difficult
for parents who were looking for international or English-language school
to remain in the center of the city. Surveys conducted in summer 2003
revealed a high interest in such schools in Berlin-Mitte. The Berlin Metropolitan
School emerged as a day school that would serve these needs.
With the founding of the Berlin Metropolitan School, another dream was
realized: that of offering an education in which individual talents would
be identified and developed. Regardless of socio-economic level, each
child would be entitled to develop his/her talents to the fullest extent.
To this end, the school is particularly interested in integrating and
advancing highly able children. The communication of knowledge and values
play an important role at the school, as do respect for other cultures
and languages
