The Independent Bonn International School, founded in
1963 when it was called The British Embassy Preparatory School,
serves the international community in the Bonn / Cologne area. The
school is a non-profit making organization and is also recognized
by the German authorities as an Ersatzschule. The Governing Body
is composed of elected parents, co-opted members and staff. All
parents are eligible to belong to the School Association.
All teachers are fully qualified and experienced and the length
of service averages over ten years. The enrolment of 175 pupils
is drawn from circa 29 nations and classes are small allowing much
individual attention and development. The caring, friendly environment
motivates pupils in all aspects of their education and the curriculum
provides a broad academic spectrum with specialist teaching in music
and German. There is also provision for learning support and learning
English as an additional language.
The international curriculum includes the National Literacy and
Numeracy Strategies and a full range of subjects.
The school year runs in three terms from August to July, but pupils
are admitted at any time of the year. The school day is from 08:50
to 15:15 with a midday break. Many extra activities, particularly
in dance or the creative arts, are also available after school and
during lunchtimes. The school is situated in pleasant, rural surroundings
in Bad Godesberg and facilities include a science laboratory, a
computer room, Smart Interactive whiteboards and a well-stocked
library.
Admission is based on the ability to profit from the school's programme.
The school welcomes visits by interested parents.
